Getting started

What is Centurion Blue?
Centurion Blue is a secondary employment tracker built for police officers. You log your off-duty, extra duty, detail and overtime jobs, and it works out your pay, records mileage and expenses, and rolls everything into reports your tax preparer can use. There is a Denver edition for Denver Police officers (with the DPD pay scale and work periods built in) and a nationwide edition for officers at every other department, where you set your own rates. It is always your own personal account, never your department's.
How do I create an account?
Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or go to centurionblue.com in any browser, pick Denver or nationwide, then create an account with your email and a password. We then email you a link to confirm the address: open the email, press the button on the page it opens, then go back to where you signed up and sign in. If the email is not there in a minute or so, check your junk or spam folder, or sign in with the email and password you chose and tap Didn't get it? Send it again when the app offers it. Denver officers can open the free Primary account at centurionblue.com/exchange. Your account syncs across every device you sign in on.
Denver edition or nationwide, which am I on?
If you're a Denver Police officer, use the Denver edition: your rank, pay scale, work periods, union dues and common venues are all built in, and it has a free plan called Primary. Officers from any other department use the nationwide edition, where you enter your own hourly rate; it is Premium only, with a 30-day free trial. You choose this when you sign up. An officer on the nationwide edition who later joins Denver can switch to the Denver edition in Settings and keep every record.
How do I get it on my phone?
Get the app from the store, then sign in with the same email and password:The phone apps add App Lock (Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone, fingerprint or face unlock on Android), home screen widgets and push alerts. iPhone also has Siri phrases and Lock Screen widgets.

Prefer the browser? Open centurionblue.com/app on any phone, tablet or computer. To keep it on your home screen without the store:
  • iPhone (Safari): tap the Share button → Add to Home Screen.
  • Android (Chrome): tap the ⋮ menu → Install app / Add to Home screen.
It is one account either way, so your records are the same on every device.
Do I need to be online?
No, logging and viewing your jobs works offline, and everything syncs the next time you're connected. A few features need the internet: address and mileage lookup, the AI receipt scan, the Job Exchange and Marketplace, and sync across devices.

Your account & plan

What's the difference between Primary and Premium?
Primary is the free plan for Denver officers ($0, no card): the Job Exchange, the Marketplace, My Schedule (the calendar, with calendar sync for Exchange and scheduled shifts), My Leave Banks, the Wellness Portal, the DIA log, a W-9 on file, and App Lock in the phone app. Premium is everything in Primary plus job logging, pay and overtime math from the Denver pay scale, mileage, expenses and receipts, the Tax Center, Year End Tax Reports, dashboards, widgets and alerts.Outside Denver: there is no free plan on the nationwide edition. It is Premium only, and it starts with a 30-day free trial.
How much is Premium, and how do I pay?
Premium is $59.99 per year or $7.99 per month. On the website you subscribe through Stripe, from the subscribe screen or from Settings. In the iPhone or Android app you subscribe through Apple or Google, and the store bills you. Officers who subscribe at $59.99 keep that rate for as long as the subscription stays active; prices may change for new subscribers.
How do I start the free trial?
Each officer gets one 30-day free Premium trial, and no card is needed to start it.
  • Denver edition: you start on the free Primary plan, and the trial starts only when you choose. Tick the trial box when you register, or start it later from the bar on the free plan. It is a one-time trial, so it cannot be restarted. If it ends and you have not subscribed, your account drops back to the free Primary plan and nothing is deleted.
  • Nationwide edition: the trial starts when you register. If it ends and you have not subscribed, you see the subscribe screen, and all of your records stay saved.
I have a free-access code, where do I enter it?
Open Settings and scroll to the bottom to the access-code box (it's also on the paywall screen). Enter the code and it unlocks full access. The code is linked to your account, so you stay unlocked on every device you sign in on, you only enter it once.
Can I use it on more than one device?
Yes. Sign in with the same email on your phone, tablet, and computer and your data syncs automatically across all of them.
How do I change my password or sign out?
In Settings, use the account section to update your password or sign out. Your data stays safe in your account and returns when you sign back in.
How do I turn on two-factor authentication (2FA)?
Open Settings → 🔐 Two-Factor Authentication and tap Enable two-factor. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, or the iPhone Passwords app), enter the 6-digit code it shows, and you're protected, from then on, signing in takes your password plus a current code from your phone. It's optional and free for every member, and you can turn it off anytime in the same card (a current code is required to turn it off).
I lost my phone and can't get my 2FA code, what do I do?
If you have a new phone with your authenticator app restored (Google Authenticator and Authy can back up and transfer codes), your codes will keep working. If you can't generate codes at all, email support@centurionblue.com from your account email, we'll verify your identity and reset two-factor on your account so you can sign in and set it up again.
How do I cancel?
It depends on where you subscribed:
  • On the website: open Settings and tap Manage or cancel your subscription. You can also email support@centurionblue.com or text (303) 802-0272.
  • In the iPhone or Android app: the subscription is billed and cancelled by Apple or Google. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions; the same Settings link takes you there.
Cancelling stops future renewals, and you keep access through the end of the period you've paid for.
How do refunds work?
Subscriptions bought in the iPhone or Android app are refunded by Apple or Google through the store, not by Centurion Blue. For a subscription bought on the website, email support@centurionblue.com or text (303) 802-0272. The full policy is in the refund policy.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings and tap Delete my account & all my data. The app shows what will happen and asks you to type DELETE before anything is removed. It then permanently erases your records on this device and in your account, including every job, expense and setting, your W-9 on file, your receipt photos, and anything you posted to the Job Exchange or Marketplace, and it removes your sign-in. If the same sign-in is also used by another service that shares the login, the sign-in is kept and the app tells you so. It cannot be undone, so tap Download my data first if you want a copy. A subscription bought on the website is cancelled at once when you delete, with no refund for the unused time. A subscription bought in the App Store or Google Play is not cancelled by deleting, so cancel it in that store or it keeps renewing. A scheduler's own roster entry and shift records that name you stay with that scheduler. If you run jobs as a scheduler, hand them to another scheduler first. If your phone app never asks you to type DELETE, it is an older version: it erases your records and signs you out but leaves your sign-in and any subscription in place, so update the app or delete at centurionblue.com/app, or email support@centurionblue.com to finish. Step-by-step instructions, what is kept, and how to ask us to do it for you are on the Delete your account page.

Set up your pay (Settings)

Where do I set my rank and years of service?
In Settings → Base Pay & Overtime. Pick your rank and years of service and your base hourly rate fills in automatically from the Denver Police pay scale. Overtime, double time, and the 25-year detective rate are all figured from it.Outside Denver: the pay scale is not built in. You enter your own hourly rate in Settings.
How is my base pay figured?
On the Denver edition it comes straight from the current Denver Police Department contract for your rank and years of service. You no longer pick a "pay period", the correct contract rate is applied to each job by its own date, and it updates automatically as scheduled raises take effect through the life of the contract.Outside Denver: your pay is figured from the hourly rate you enter yourself.
What are the Overtime and Double Time multipliers?
Overtime defaults to ×1.5 (time-and-a-half) and Double Time to ×2.0 of your base pay. You can adjust them in Settings, and the live rate is shown right beside each.
What is the 25-Year Detective OT rate?
Denver edition only. Some secondary employment jobs pay the Detective/Corporal 25-year overtime rate instead of your own officer OT. It's shown in Settings, and on each Department Paid Overtime job you can choose Officer Overtime or the 25-Year Detective Rate.
What else should I set up?
Add your home address (so mileage can be measured for you), choose your mileage rule under Mileage deduction rules, set your weekly hours cap (default 32), and optionally your district, badge number, and preferred time format. Do it once and everything else fills in for you.

Logging a job

How do I log a job?
On the Home screen, use Quick Add a Job: pick the date, type the employer/job name (pick from the suggestions to auto-fill an address), choose the job type, enter the shift times or hours, and add. Your pay calculates as you type, and on 1099 jobs the mileage is recorded with it.
What are the job types?
  • 1099: contract / secondary-employment work; you handle your own taxes (the only job type the app tracks mileage on).
  • Check Only (Non-1099): paid by check with no 1099 issued.
  • Direct Employer: another agency pays you on a W-2.
  • Department Paid Overtime: your dept OT at base × 1.5.
  • Department Double Time: base × 2.0.
For the two department types, just enter the hours, the rate is automatic.
Do I enter shift times or hours?
Either. If you enter Shift Start and Shift End, the hours fill in automatically. Or just type the Hours Worked directly. Shift times also let the calendar check the job against your regular DPD shift.
What is the "Paid?" field, and why does it disappear sometimes?
"Paid?" tracks whether you've been paid for a venue-paid job (Yes / No / Partial) so unpaid ones show in your Collect Payment list. It's hidden for Department Paid Overtime and Double Time, because those come through payroll, there's nothing to collect.
Can I add one job to several days at once?
Yes. Turn on Repeat this job on multiple days in Quick Add (pick a date range and weekdays, and/or specific dates), or use Select multiple days on the Calendar. Days that fall on your regular DPD shift are skipped automatically.
How do I duplicate a job I already logged?
On any job in your lists, tap the ⧉ (duplicate) button. It copies the job into Quick Add with a fresh date, set the new date and add it.
What is the ⭐ My Jobs row?
Every job you add saves itself there automatically, so there is nothing to press. Each employer you have worked shows up as a one-tap chip that refills the form (employer, type, address, miles, rate, times) with a fresh date. Hours are left blank on purpose, since they change every shift. Tap the × on a chip to hide it from the row; your logged jobs are not touched.
I typed the same employer two different ways, can I merge them?
Yes. Open Settings and find 🔗 Combine Employers. Drag one name onto the other, or on a phone tap one to pick it up and then tap the one you want to keep. Every logged job, one-tap chip, uploaded W-2 and pay schedule moves across, so your totals and the W-2 tracker stop splitting the two apart.
Can it tell me what is landing on my next payday?
For 1099, check only and direct employer work, yes. In Settings turn on 💵 Paydays, then for each employer pick how often they pay, enter one real payday you know, and say how far behind the money runs. Home then shows the coming paydays with the amount and exactly which work each one covers. Department overtime is not included here, that already runs on the DPD exceptions schedule on Home.
How do I edit or delete a job?
Tap Edit on the job (from Home, the Calendar day view, or the Log), change what you need, and save. To delete, open the Log tab and use the delete (✕) button on that row.

Pay, overtime & the contract (Denver)

How does "contract-accurate pay" work?
Every job is figured at the DPD contract rate that was in effect on that job's date. A job you worked in one pay period uses that period's rate; a later job uses the later rate, automatically, across the whole 2026 to 2028 contract. You don't pick a period anymore.Outside Denver: this section covers the Denver edition. On the nationwide edition your pay uses the rates you enter in Settings.
When do contract raises take effect?
Per the contract (Article 28.2), each raise takes effect the first Sunday after its calendar date, so a job worked just before that Sunday uses the prior rate, and one on or after uses the new rate. The app handles this for you.
Officer OT vs. the 25-year detective rate?
On a Department Paid Overtime job, choose Officer Overtime (your base × 1.5) or the 25-Year Detective Rate if that particular job pays it. The live rate for each is shown right in the dropdown.
What about Department Double Time?
Choose the Department Double Time job type and just enter your hours, pay is hours × your base × 2.0, figured from the contract rate on that date.

Mileage

How does mileage work?
On 1099 jobs the app measures the drive and values it at the IRS rate in force that day. You choose the rule in Settings, Mileage deduction rules: with a qualified home office the round trip from home counts; without one, the drive from home is left out and a job you drive to straight from your station counts one way. Mileage is tracked on 1099 jobs only, and it is not added to your pay. Record keeping only; ask a tax professional which applies to you.
Which mileage rule should I pick?
That is your call, and it is worth asking a tax professional. The app only records the miles under the rule you choose in Settings, Mileage deduction rules, under How to count 1099 mileage. The three choices are:
  • Not chosen (round trip on every 1099 job): the app counts the round trip from your home to every 1099 job.
  • I have a qualified home office: the round trip from your home to every 1099 job counts.
  • No home office (leave out commuting): home to a 1099 job and back is commuting and is left out. A job you drive to straight from your district station counts one way; pick it under Travel from when you add or edit the job, and its miles are measured from there.
Outside Denver: the third choice uses the regular workplace address you add in the same card instead of a district station. Record keeping only; ask a tax professional which applies to you.
What IRS mileage rate does the app use?
The rate in force on each job's date. For 2026 that is 72.5 cents a mile from January 1 to June 30 and 76 cents a mile from July 1 to December 31.
Does mileage fill in automatically?
Yes, if you've set your home address in Settings and added the job's address, the driving miles from home to the job fill in automatically (and stay editable). When you drove straight from work, you can measure from your district station instead by picking it under Travel from.Outside Denver: add your regular workplace in Settings, Mileage deduction rules, to measure from there.
What is "business mileage (non-commute)"?
Work-related miles that aren't a drive to a 1099 job, log them as a separate mileage row in Other Expenses; they're valued at the IRS rate and kept apart from your per-job 1099 mileage.
Is mileage counted as income?
No. Mileage is a tax record only: a running total for your tax preparer. It never inflates your tracked pay.

Calendar & schedule

What does the calendar show?
A month view of your work. Days with logged jobs show hours and pay; your regular DPD shift days show the shift hours (with a ⚡ when they differ from your standard, e.g. a shift change); days off and vacation/ASL/comp days are marked too. Tap any day to see that day's jobs listed in time order.Outside Denver: the DPD shift and work period details are part of the Denver edition.
How do I mark days off and vacation?
Turn on your schedule in Settings, then mark days off and vacation right on the calendar. This keeps your hours cap accurate and shows when secondary employment is allowed.
What is the 32-hour cap warning?
If a job would push your secondary-employment hours over your weekly cap (default 32), the app shows a live "this week: X / cap hr" note and asks you to confirm before saving. It checks the Quick Add, Repeat, and multi-day flows.
What is the regular-shift conflict warning?
On the Denver edition, if a job's times overlap your regular DPD shift that day, the app flags it and won't schedule it inside your shift hours. Enter times outside your shift, or adjust that day's shift on the Calendar. A day you marked as a no off-duty day works differently: the app warns you, and you can still add the job if you have changed your mind.
Can I sync jobs to my phone's calendar?
Yes. Choose Apple, Google, or Outlook in Settings, then add a job, or all upcoming jobs at once, to your calendar. You can also turn on in-app reminders and (where supported) push notifications for upcoming jobs.

Expenses & receipts

How do I track expenses?
Open Other Expenses and add a row for uniforms, gear, weapons & ammo, training, phone, and more, with the category, business-use %, recurring frequency, and which job it's for. Totals roll up by category into your tax report.
📸 How does the AI receipt scan work?
Snap a receipt with your phone camera (or drag/drop a photo on desktop). The app reads it with AI and fills in the vendor, date, amount, and category automatically, you just double-check it. The receipt photo is attached and included in your year-end PDF. Blurry receipt? You can still type the details in by hand, and there's a 🔍 Scan button to re-read a photo.
Can I attach a receipt photo without scanning?
Yes, the 📷 Add button on any expense row lets you take or attach a photo. It's saved with that expense and prints on your reports whether or not you use the AI scan.
How do I add union dues?
On the Denver edition, use the one-click presets for DPPA or FOP dues (monthly or yearly), they add a pre-filled, dated row so you don't have to look up the amounts.Outside Denver: add your dues as a regular row in Other Expenses.

W-9 on file

How do I fill out my W-9?
In Settings → W-9 on File, tap Fill out / update my W-9. Enter your name, address, tax classification, and SSN or EIN, it fills the official IRS form for you. It's dated automatically.
Can I sign it digitally?
Yes, draw your signature with your finger (or type your name) in the signature box, and it's placed on the W-9's signature line along with the date. Your W-9 downloads ready to hand in, already signed.
Where is my SSN stored?
Only inside the finished PDF, the app stores the completed, dated document, not your SSN as a separate field. The stored PDF is encrypted in our database. It's downloadable by you (and by a scheduler whose roster you're on). If Download my W-9 shows an error in a phone app that has not been updated, sign in at centurionblue.com/app in a browser and download it there.
Can a scheduler get my W-9?
Yes, a scheduler you're rostered with can download your on-file W-9 to give the employer, so you don't fill one out for every job. Schedulers can also pull a whole job's W-9s as one merged PDF.

Tax reports & forms

How do I get my tax report?
Open the Year End Tax Reports tab and download the year-end PDF (and CSV). It's accountant-ready: income by category (1099 vs. W-2), your mileage record, expenses with receipts, totals by employer, and a quarterly breakdown.
Where do I mark a W-2 or 1099 received?
In the W-2 Tracker at the bottom of the Log tab. It groups your jobs by employer, one form per employer per year. Tick a form when it arrives, and you can upload a copy so it prints inside your year-end report. The Tax Center lists the status of each form.
What does "No 1099 expected" mean?
It means that payer paid you less than $2,000 in the year ($600 before 2026), so it does not have to send you a 1099. The income is still taxable, and your log is the record of it. If a 1099 comes anyway, tick it received in the W-2 Tracker.
Does it figure my taxes for me?
It organizes everything your tax preparer needs and totals it cleanly, and the Tax Center shows estimates, but it's a record-keeping aid, not tax advice. Use it to hand your preparer a complete, tidy picture, no shoeboxes.
Can I see what each employer paid?
Yes, the reports and dashboard break down totals by job and by expense category for the year, so you can see what each employer paid and what each category adds up to.

Job Exchange (Denver)

What is the Job Exchange?
A Denver-only board where officers can grab open off-duty jobs or hand off a job they can't work, coordinated cleanly with your squad. Open shifts you can grab and shifts assigned to you appear on your Home screen.
Does it cost anything?
No. The Job Exchange is part of the free Primary plan for Denver officers. Create an account at centurionblue.com/exchange.

Marketplace (Denver)

What is the Marketplace?
The Denver Police Marketplace, buy and sell officer to officer, support fundraisers, and trade challenge coins with people you trust. Open to all items, goods, and services. It is not a public site: listings are visible only to signed-in members, every account is opened with a Denver badge number, and every listing is reviewed before it goes live. Job postings run through the Employment Exchange in the app, where the Secondary Employment Contract is built into the posting form. Local businesses can advertise to officers for a nominal fee. Open the 🛒 Marketplace tab in the app, or visit it from the Denver page.
How do I post something?
Posting is free. Tap Post to the Marketplace, fill out the quick form (with your email and up to 4 photos), and submit. Every post gets a quick review; when it goes live you’ll get an email with a private removal code. Enter it under Remove my post to take your listing down the moment it sells. No emails, no waiting.

For schedulers

What is the Scheduler portal?
If you build the schedule for an off-duty job, a designated Scheduler account lets you add officers and jobs, assign officers to shifts, and manage the whole roster. Assigned officers see their shifts on their own calendar automatically.
Open vs. closed jobs?
Mark a job Closed to assign every spot yourself, or Open so your roster officers can grab open spots themselves via the Job Exchange.
What else can a scheduler do?
Add day notes, approve swaps, print schedule PDFs and pay-by-officer job summaries, and download officers' W-9s (individually or bundled). Contact support@centurionblue.com to be set up as a scheduler.
How does a client get an employer login, and how do I remove one?
Send the client a client request link from Client request links in the Scheduler Portal, the same link that works with no login. On that form they can choose to create a free employer login at centurionblue.com/employers. Their requests land in Client job requests, marked as sent from an employer login, and your link rules apply. What you type when you decline or ask for more on one of those requests is sent to the employer; your private notes on other requests stay private.
  • See the logins: each link lists the employer logins made from it.
  • Remove one: tap Remove next to it. They keep their login but cannot send to you with that link again. To let them back in, make a new link and send it to them.
  • New link or Turn off: either one cuts off every login made from that link until the client adds your new link.
Requests already sent stay in your inbox.

For employers

What is the employer login?
It is a free login at centurionblue.com/employers for a business that already hires off-duty officers through a scheduling officer who uses Centurion Blue. You sign in whenever you need officers, send a request to your scheduling officer, and see where each request stands. Sending a request books nothing: nothing is scheduled until your scheduling officer approves it. It is separate from an officer account and does not open the Centurion Blue app. Centurion Blue does not find officers for a business that has no scheduling officer. Off-duty officers are not a 911 response. For an emergency, call 911.
How do I get an employer login?
From your scheduling officer's link. Ask them for their client request link, open it, and choose Create a free employer login, or paste the link into Create a login at centurionblue.com/employers. You enter your business name, your name, phone and email, and a password of 8 characters or more. If you have no link, ask your scheduling officer for one. We cannot issue one for them.
Why am I asked to confirm my email?
When you create the login we send a confirmation link to your email address. Open it once, and we will email you when a request is approved, declined or needs more information. Your login works and you can send requests before you confirm; until then, sign in to see where your requests stand. If the email did not arrive, check your spam folder, then sign in and use Send the confirmation email again.
I forgot my employer login password.
On centurionblue.com/employers, use Forgot password under Sign in and enter your email. If that address has a login, we email a link to choose a new password. The link works once and expires in one hour. After too many wrong tries, sign in is paused for 15 minutes; Forgot password still works during that time.
Who do I ask about a job or a request?
Your scheduling officer, not Centurion Blue. Officers, dates, times, rates and cancellations are all between you and them. Our support helps with the website only, such as a login that will not work: email support@centurionblue.com or text (303) 802-0272 (text only).

Your data & privacy

Where is my data stored?
In your own account, synced to the cloud, and kept on your device for offline use. It's your personal information, and it is never shared with your department. The app never tracks your location in the background; it can use your location once when you tap, for a GPS check in on a scheduled shift or Use my location in the DIA Log.
Who can see my data?
Your job log, pay, mileage, expenses and tax records sit in your own account, and none of it is shared with your department. A few things are seen by other officers because that is how they work:
  • Marketplace listings and Job Exchange posts are seen by signed-in Denver members.
  • On a scheduler's job, the scheduler sees your name, your assigned shifts and your GPS check in when the job uses it, and can download your W-9 on file. Officers working the same job on the same day see each other's names.
The full picture is on the Your data page.
Can I back up or move my data?
Yes, in Settings you can Download my data (JSON) as a backup and Restore it later, or reset all data. Because it syncs to your account, signing in on a new device brings everything with you.
Is this tax or legal advice?
No. Centurion Blue is a record-keeping aid, not tax or legal advice, and is not affiliated with, authorized, or endorsed by any police department. See the Privacy Policy and Terms.

Troubleshooting

The app looks out of date / a fix isn't showing.
iPhone or Android app: install the latest update from the App Store or Google Play, then fully close the app and reopen it. Browser or home screen icon: the app updates itself when you reopen it online. If it seems stuck on an old version, fully close it (swipe it away from your recents) and reopen it while connected. If it still looks old, remove the icon from your home screen and re-add it from the browser. You can check the version stamp in the app to confirm you're current.
Autocomplete / suggestions aren't showing.
Make sure you're on the latest version (see above). Suggestions appear as you type in the Employer/Job Name and Address fields; the list is drawn from your past jobs plus, on the Denver edition, common Denver venues.
A calculation looks off.
Double-check your rank & years of service in Settings and the job's date (pay is figured at the contract rate for that date). For OT jobs, confirm you picked Officer OT vs. the detective rate. Still off? Email or text us the details.Outside Denver: check the hourly rate you entered in Settings.
Can I clear an alert or a roster message when I am done with it?
Yes. Tap the bell at the top right, then tap the ✕ on an alert to clear it. On Roster Messages, tap the ✕ on a message to remove it from your own list. Neither one changes your jobs, pay or records, and removing a message does not remove it for anyone else. A cleared alert comes back by itself when there is something new on it, such as another unpaid job. Tap Show it again or Show them again under the list to bring them back sooner.
How do I get help from a person?
Email support@centurionblue.com or text (303) 802-0272 any time (text only). Emails and texts are answered by a person, and we read every message. The chat bubble is an automated assistant; its Talk to a person row has the same email and text links.
No help articles matched that. Try a different word, email support@centurionblue.com, or text (303) 802-0272.
